The Development of RPGwx
RPGwx / RPG Web Extensions is a framework developed by Toolmaker, which is CGI-based and enables the processing of IBM i data and programs in the web browser. RPG and COBOL programmers use it to create real browser applications without 5250-DDS. We have been developing RPGwx for several years. Compared to 5250 programming, programmers for subfile displays only need 50 instead of 1000 statements - they save 95% effort and work. For detail processing the saving is about 50%. Programming of modern interfaces becomes child's play, everyone can create modern applications and modernize older ones with little effort. So RPGwx has the potential to bring the IBM i back to the level it deserves. The powerful and unsurpassed reliable IBM i platform gets a new, modern face.
